FUNCTIONSMen’s Ultimate Vitamin and Mineral Nutrient Pack: Now contains Metafolin®, a patented, natural form of (6S) 5-methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF) as well as 500 IU of vitamin D3 per serving. 5-MTHF is the naturally occurring, predominant form of folate commonly found in cells and is essential for overall health, as it participates as a cofactor in a reaction that involves the remethylation of homocysteine to methionine. Unlike synthetic folic acid, 5-MTHF can be used directly by the body, without the need for an additional conversion via the enzyme (5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR)). In certain populations, the body’s ability to convert folic acid to 5-MTHF by use of this enzyme may be compromised due to genetic differences. Metafolin® contains only the S isomer of 5-MTHF and has been shown to be the only form of folate to be able to cross the blood-brain barrier.
Additional vitamin D3 (also known as cholecalciferol) has been added to this formula as numerous scientists now feel that supplementation with vitamin D at levels greater than previously thought necessary is critical to helping maintain overall health. Coenzyme Q-10 with Lipoic Acid: Coenzyme Q10 is an important rate-limiting nutrient that is a cofactor in the mitochondrial electron transport chain, the biochemical pathway in cellular respiration from which adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and metabolic energy is derived. Since nearly all cellular activities are dependent upon energy, coenzyme Q10 is essential for the health of all human tissues and organs.
Alpha-lipoic acid is a unique biological antioxidant, because it is soluble in both water and lipids. This allows it to neutralize free radicals just about everywhere in the body, inside and outside the cells. Due to its unique sulfur-containing structure, alpha-lipoic acid can scavenge several types of free radicals, such as the highly reactive hydroxyl, and singlet oxygen free radicals. It is also capable of suppressing the generation of free radicals in the first place, since alpha-lipoic acid chelates transition metals, such as iron and copper. Because alpha lipoic acid is involved in so many different antioxidant functions in virtually all body tissues, it has been called the universal antioxidant.† Besides being a universal free radical scavenger, alpha-lipoic acid can also recharge other antioxidant systems throughout the body.
Antioxidant-Max: Is a potent antioxidant combination of white tea, apple, pomegranate and blueberry extracts. Diets high in antioxidants, as well as supplementation with antioxidants have been shown to have a protective effect in reducing cellular damage caused by free radicals. 1 capsule of Antioxidan-Max provides the approximate ORAC equivalent (oxygen radical absorbance capacity ) of 4-5 servings of fruits and vegetables.
DEPA: DEPA contains a marine lipid concentrate that has been processed by molecular distillation. DEPA is an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, providing eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA, 18%) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, 12%) in their natural triglyceride form. Studies have shown that EPA, along with DHA may play an important role in cardiovascular health.†
